In early 2021, not long after the world began to wake from the Covid restrictions, I was commissioned to film at the Motherwell Civic Centre, a striking example of modernist Scottish architecture. The project was a music video shoot with Teenage Fanclub, one of Scotland’s most iconic indie bands. The building’s geometric concrete forms made the perfect backdrop for their sound. I flew both inside and outside, capturing the band performing live alongside wide, cinematic shots of the architecture itself. The final edit combined my aerial footage with ground-based video by Donald Milne, creating a layered visual that matched the band’s tone perfectly, part performance, part portrait of a building, and unmistakably Scottish. A rare chance to fly in such an unusual setting, and to be part of something that felt both intimate and monumental.
